Legislative Data Center Vacancies

THE LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL BUREAU is a small civil service department whose mission is to provide legal services and information technology services to the California State Legislature. Bureau employees are Excluded from collective bargaining and, therefore, receive enhanced benefits including a $25,000 life insurance policy, increased vacation and annual leave accrual, and have no fair share deductions.

The Legislative Counsel Bureau has been authorized by law to administer a unique examination program and to utilize a broadband job classification structure for the information technology positions at the Legislative Data Center (LDC). Under this position-specific selection program, examinations are conducted for each specific IT vacancy within the LDC. These exams are announced via Job Opportunity Bulletins (JOBs) and the examination and hiring interview may be combined into one interview. The most qualified candidate is then offered an appointment to that specific vacant position for which the exam was conducted. At the conclusion of a selection process, LCB may establish a pool of eligibles comprised of the most qualified candidates who competed in the process. This pool may be used to fill subsequent vacancies, which require substantially similar knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors. Such pools can be used for a period not to exceed one year from the final filing date of the original selection process.

Under the broadband class structure component of this program, the positions at the LDC are grouped into 3 broad bands of classes. They are: Information Technician Band, Information Technology Specialist Band and Information Systems Supervisor/Manager Band. Within each of these bands are different classes and levels from the entry level to the full journey, technical expert level of the particular band.
